Playwriting Workshop: “Fundamentals & Contemporary Trends in Playwriting”

The Department of Theatre Studies of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS-FORTH) is organizing a Playwriting Workshop titled “Fundamentals & Contemporary Trends in Playwriting”, led by the playwright Eirini Dermitzaki.

The workshop is funded by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture under the program Creative Greece 2025 – Contemporary Culture Grants 2025 and is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. Participation is free of charge.

Workshop Overview

The playwriting workshop “Fundamentals & Contemporary Trends in Playwriting” consists of ten sessions and explores modern playwriting techniques — from the initial conception of an idea to the creation of a complete play.

It combines theory and practice, beginning with the fundamentals of playwriting (structure, character development, dialogue) and progressing to contemporary dramaturgical techniques. It is ideal for beginners as well as writers and theatre professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of modern narrative forms.

The workshop aims for each participant to complete a short play or monologue by the end of the program.
