School Visits
FORTH fosters education, supporting vocational guidance: more than 1,100 students visit its facilities every year, to get acquainted with the pioneering research conducted at the Foundation. They participate in presentations and visits to its research laboratories, where they meet and interact with FORTH’s researchers, in order to understand the impact of research on our daily life.
At FORTH headquarters in Heraklion, students visit 2 of the following 5 Institutes: Computer Science, Electronic Structure and Laser, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Applied & Computational Mathematics and Astrophysics. Declared preference may be satisfied, depending on the Institutes’ availability. It is also possible to take a tour of the facilities of the Crete University Press.
The educational activities of FORTH are free of charge, and aim at knowledge dissemination to the broader public.
Priority is given to students of B' and C' Lyceum Classes. The maximum number of participants is 40, due to limited space in the laboratories.
Visits are scheduled, twice a month, on Thursdays, at about 10.30 am and they last approximately 1.5-2 hours. A typical visit begins with a 30’ presentation of FORTH, followed by a visit to the selected Institutes.
A formal written request is required in order to arrange a visit to FORTH.
