The 2nd International Conference OpenEARTH 2024, was hosted by the Laboratory of Geophysical-Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies, in Rethymno, Crete (Nikiforou Foka 130 & Melissinou).

OpenEARTH 2024 took place from 26 to 28 November in the beautiful city of Rethymnon, Crete.
Rethymnon, known for its rich history and multicultural heritage, offers a unique blend of Venetian, Ottoman, and Greek influences. With its picturesque old town, charming narrow streets, and the famous Fortezza castle overlooking the sea, Rethymnon provides the perfect backdrop for an inspiring scientific exchange. This historic city has been a meeting point of cultures for centuries, making it an ideal location for a global discussion on sustainability and climate change.

The Conference was held at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (Nikiforou Foka 130 & Melissinou), located in a historic building that is a testament to the city’s academic and cultural legacy. Participants had the opportunity to gather in this prestigious setting to explore and discuss critical issues related to climate change adaptation and mitigation in the primary and secondary sectors. The focus was on promoting sustainable agricultural and livestock farming practices through the use of modern and effective technologies.

OpenEARTH 2024 aimed to engage both scientists and the public, raising awareness about sustainable management strategies for the Mediterranean region and the planet as a whole. The Conference fostered dialogue on how to address climate change challenges while sharing innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
