New Director of the Institute of Geoenergy of FORTH

Mr. Ioannis Yentekakis, Professor at the Technical University of Crete and Collaborating Member of the Research Staff at the Institute of Geoenergy of the FORTH, was elected Director of the Institute on January 22, 2024.

The election was conducted by a seven-member Evaluation Committee appointed by the Ministry of Development chaired by Professor Olga Vizika-Kavvadia, Director of Research at the Institute of Research and Innovation, IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN)

Dr. Ioannis V. Yentekakis is Full Professor of Physical Chemistry and Catalysis in the School of Chemical & Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Crete, Greece. He received his Chemical Engineering Diploma (1983) and PhD (1988) from the University of Patras (UP). His research and academic career are associated with Princeton University USA and ICE-HT/FORTH (Postdoc), Cambridge University UK (visiting Professor; collaborating with Prof. R.M. Lambert), Dept. of Chemical Engineering University of Patras (Lecturer: 1996; Assistant Professor: 2000), and finally with Technical University of Crete (Associate Professor: 2001, and Full Professor: 2006-today). His current research interests concern development of novel nanostructured materials and processes in heterogeneous catalysis for green chemistry, environmental protection, natural gas and biogas valorization, hydrocarbons processing, CO2 capture/utilization, H2 technologies, Fuel cells, and renewable/sustainable energy generation. He is author/co-author of 139 peer-reviewed journal publications, 3 international patents, 10 books and > 150 publications in conference proceedings. His published work has received > 6300 citations, h-factor=48 (Source: Google Scholar). Prof. Yentekakis is Section Editor-in-Chief of the Nanomaterials MDPI journal, Specialty Chief-Editor of Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry: Catalytic Remediation and Editorial Board Member in 8 additional journals. His research has been funded with more than 10,000,000 € in 39 research projects (24 as coordinator) by the European Union, the Hellenic Ministry of Development-GSRI, etc. Professor Yentekakis has supervised 4 Postdocs, 9 Ph.D., more than 30 M.Sc. and ~ 100 undergraduate diploma works.
