The Coastal & Marine Research Laboratory of FORTH is carrying out a research project for the Lasithi Prefecture, concerning the beaches of Pachia Ammos and Kavousi. The project includes recording of the erosion, analysis of its causes and proposals for intervention on the coastline and improvement of security and accessibility to the beaches.

At the same time, as part of the project, data and observations regarding the concentrations of plastics in the coastal zone and their transfer in the wider marine area are collected, in relation to the prevailing oceanographic conditions, highlighting their routes to the beaches, the areas of high concentration on the coastline, as well as the seasonal peaks of the phenomenon.
