The Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of FORTH and the Vikelaia Municipal Library, with the support of Europe Direct (Region of Crete), co-organized a TRIBUTE to the director, screenwriter, lyricist and poet ERRIKOS THALASSINOS, an honorary event of his life and work and an exhibition of movie posters and archival material, courtesy of the creator’s family. The event took place on June 17th in the Event Hall of the Vikelaia Municipal Library of Heraklion.
Errikos Thalassinos (1927-2000) was born and raised in Heraklion, Crete. He studied political science at Panteion University and cinematography at Stravrakos Film School. In 1957 he began working for the cinema industry and more specifically for Jules Dassin as assistant director on the film Celui qui doit mourir (He Who Must Die) and went on to direct some fifty films (1958-1989). At the same time, he wrote song lyrics, which were set to music by leading composers, such as Mikis Theodorakis, Yannis Markopoulos, Kostas Hatzis and Giorgos Hatzinasios, and had a passion for poetry, publishing one poetry collection and leaving behind an extensive body of unpublished work.
