Spiros H. Anastasiadis, Professor of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Crete and Director of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), has been unanimously elected as the President of the European Polymer Federation (EPF) for the period 2018-2019.

Dr. Dimitris Plexousakis, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Crete and Head of the Information Systems Laboratory (ISL) of the Institute of Computer Science was elected Director of the Institute on December 22, 2016. His official appointment is expected in the next few weeks.

The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) announces the official kickoff of the project “Advancing Young Researchers’ Human Capital in Cutting Edge Technologies in the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and the Tackling of Societal Challenges – ARCHERS”, which is implemented with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

HOBBIT is a project within the EU’s “Horizon 2020” framework program and started on December 1st, 2015. The consortium consists of InfAI (coordinator, Germany), Fraunhofer IAIS (Germany), FORTH (Greece), NCSR “Demokritos” (Greece), iMinds (Belgium), USU Software AG (Germany), Ontos AG (Switzerland), OpenLink Software (UK), AGT Group R&D GmbH (Germany) and TomTom (Poland). The Ιnstitute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), Heraklion, Crete, announced today the start of a collaboration with leading US audio solutions provider Audyssey Labs, located in Los Angeles, California, USA. Audyssey and FORTH have signed a licensing agreement that allows audio processing intellectual property developed by FORTH to be included in Audyssey’s suite of technologies offered to its customers.

EUROSERVER, a leading EU-funded research project, is paving the way toward lower energy consumption in data centers. Based on the concept of chiplets, where multiple silicon subsystems are mounted in an integrated device, along with an associated new groundbreaking system architecture, the project has enabled more energy-efficient servers and has even inspired startups motivated by the new technology.

Rich experiences and networking were some of the gains of this year’s participation in the eHealth Forum 2016 for the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis, Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the Foundation for Research and Technology and Professor at the Medical School of the University of Crete, was unanimously elected yesterday Director of the Central Administration and President of FORTH, by a 7-member Evaluation Committee consisted of highly recognised Greek scientists, headed by Prof. Gregory Stephanopoulos (MIT).
