EMBO Young Investigator award at IMBB-FORTH
George A. Garinis, Associate Professor of Genetics at the department of Biology, University of Crete and an affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) at the Foundation of Research and technology Hellas has been awarded today the prestigious EMBO Young Investigator award for his research achievements on delineating the functional role of Nucleotide Excision Repair factors in development and disease.
Selected by EMBO Members annually for their high research standards, EMBO Young Investigators are some of Europe’s most talented young scientists who benefit from financial, academic and practical support during the startup of their first independent research laboratories. The program draws attention to the research of these outstanding young group leaders as they develop reputations in the scientific community.
Since its conception, the EMBO Young Investigator program has awarded 7 scientists established at Greek Research Institutions of which 4 scientists are working at the IMBB-FORTH.
The Garinis lab will receive 3 years of support and funding from the EMBO Young Invsetigator Program to study the functional role of NER factors in development and in age-related diseases. On top, the program is expected to raise the profile of the lab allowing it to secure more funding for its future research activities.
