Lasers4EU: FORTH participates to the new European platform for laser research

Α new European program, "Lasers4EU", was recently launched with the participation of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), continuing the long tradition of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of FORTH in the field of lasers. In the framework of the kick off meeting which took place on 21-22 October 2024, directors of European research centers from all around Europe met at FORTH’s facilities in Heraklion.

"Lasers4EU", funded with €5 million from the European Union, continues the legacy of the flagship project "Laserlab-Europe", which has made a significant impact, in diverse research fields, including –among others- the protection of cultural heritage.

The project involves 29 leading research centers from 14 European countries. For IESL-FORTH scientific leadership is provided by Costas Fotakis, Emeritus Professor at the University of Crete, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of FORTH, and former Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation.

"Lasers4EU" is an international platform, which addresses to scientists stemming from the academic, research and industrial community, offering access to leading European laser infrastructures and high-level expertize. By synergistically utilizing the infrastructures, expertise, and resources of various European research centers, "Lasers4EU" promotes collaboration and technological innovation, setting a benchmark for the future of European laser research.

The "Lasers4EU" project aims to enhance Europe’s competitiveness in the field of laser technology, creating new opportunities in research, education, and industry.
