The Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas announces, with deep sorrow, the death of Gregory Sifakis, Founding Member of FORTH, who had served as the first Director of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) for seven years. He passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the age of 88.

Gregory Sifakis (Heraklion 1935 – Athens 2023) was Emeritus Professor of Ancient Greek Philology at the University of Thessaloniki and Alexander S. Onassis Professor of Ancient Greek Philology and Modern Greek Culture at New York University (1992-2003), as well as a distinguished member of FORTH.
