A Three-Dimensional Atlas of the Milky Way
ERC funds scientists to map Galaxy in 3D: Torsten Enßlin (Max Planck Inst. for Astrophysics), Philipp Mertsch (RWΤΗ Aachen University) & Vasiliki Pavlidou (Inst. of Astrophysics-FORTH), have been awarded a highly competitive European Research Council Synergy Grant) aiming to create the first three-dimensional, comprehensive atlas of our Milky Way galaxy.
Memorandum of Cooperation between FORTH and the Economic Chamber of Eastern Crete
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the president of FORTH, Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis, and the President of the Economic Chamber of Eastern Crete, Mr. Evangelos Glakas. The two organizations aim to leverage the expertise of their scientific teams on issues of common interest concerning the country's social and economic life. This collaboration will focus on joint research activities, educational programs, studies, and events to promote the Digital Economy.
"Space and climate change" event in the framework of the World Space Week celebration
In the framework of the World Space Week celebration, the Institute of Astrophysics of FORTH in collaboration with the Department of Physics of the University of Crete are organizing an event (in Greek) at the Department of Physics, on Friday 25 October 2024 (18:00-21:00).

Lecture: "Disasters of War in the Contemporary Ukrainian Drama"
The lecture will take place at the premises of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in Rethymnon (Nikiforou Foka 130 & Melissinou), on Monday, October 21st, at 19.30.
Speakers: Oleksandr Pronkevich, professor at Ukrainian Catholic University and a researcher of Spanish literature and culture and theater critic John Freedman, curator of the Ukrainian component of Ukrainian Drama Translations web-site.

“Nick Kylafis” Distinguished Lecture 2024 at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
The 6th annual Nick Kylafis Distinguished Lecture will be given for 2024 by the distinguished astrophysicist David Spergel, President of the Simons Foundation and Charles A. Young Professor of Astronomy Emeritus at Princeton University (USA). Moreover, from 2016 until 2021 Professor Spergel was the founding Director of the Center for Computational Astrophysics of the Flatiron Institute in New York, which is supported by the Simons Foundation.
