The Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of FORTH announces that Mr. Nikos Hadjinikolaou, art historian, professor emeritus at the University of Crete and researcher at the "El Greco Center" of IMS/FORTH, is going to receive the Herder prize for the year 2006

This year, one of the primary Descartes prizes was awarded to professor Costas Soukoulis, as coordinator of an international research team comprising five FORTH researchers. Costas Soukoulis is a professor at the University of Crete, a professor at the University of Iowa and a researcher at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser at FORTH.

During its session held on 8 October 2005, the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) discussed the wish of the Municipal Council of Heraklion to establish a new centre for the study of El Greco's work, independently from the one that has been operating as part of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of FORTH in Rethymnon for the last 15 years.

The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) scored a total of 4.67 (excellent) out of 5, thus attaining the highest score in the recent national evaluation of Research Centers.

The Centre for eHealth Technologies of FORTH received the Best Paper Award for the presentation of the paper "Innovation practices in the Emergency Medical Services in Crete"

FORTH mourns the premature loss on March 18, 2005 of Professor Stelios Orphanoudakis, its Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Martin TABLER, Research Director of the Institute for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of FORTH passed away in the morning of 3/4/05 in Sofia. His loss was totally unexpected and premature.
