Forthnet ΑΕ (1995-2021)

Forthnet was established in 1995 as a spin-off company of ICS-FORTH (Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas) when it created the first network node in Greece, providing selected users (universities, research centers, etc.) with a connection to UUCP and EARN/BITNET networks (the most widespread networks at that time).

Forthnet was the first successful example of a “spin-off” company in Greece, in the highly demanding and competitive field of telecommunications. Since its establishment, it has been one of the most dynamic companies in Greece, evolving into one of the largest providers of telephony and Internet services in the country and, as of year 2000, was listed on the Athens Stock Exchange.

In 2008 Forthnet acquired Multichoice (a subsidiary of its South African parent company), which owns the Nova subscription platform.

In early 2021, Forthnet was acquired by United Group, the leading provider of telecommunications and media services in Southeast Europe. As of June 15, 2021, Forthnet officially changed its name to Nova.
