Lecture by Nasos Argyriou: "Natural hazards threatening the cultural heritage of Rethymno"
The Municipality of Rethymnon and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) are organizing for the year 2025 a series of lectures addressed to the general public of Rethymnon. In these talks, open to everyone, the Institute's researchers will present elements of their research work in an accessible way, followed by a discussion. The events will take place at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in the old town, 130 Nikiforou Fokas and Melissinou.
The forth lecture titled "Natural hazards threatening the cultural heritage of Rethymno", will take place on Monday, November 7, 2025 at 19.00 by Dr. Nasos Argyriou, Assistant Researcher at the Laboratory of Geophysical - Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, of IMS-FORTH.
“Nick Kylafis” Distinguished Lecture 2025 at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
The 7th annual Nick Kylafis Distinguished Lecture will be given for 2025 by the distinguished astrophysicist Roger Blandford, Luke Blossom Professor at Stanford University (USA).
Professor Blandford’s lecture, which will follow the public ceremony, will be in English and it is entitled “New Horizons in Extreme Electrodynamics of Black Holes and Neutron Stars”. It will take place on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, at 14.00 at the Central Amphitheater of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), with simultaneous webcast.

The Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of FORTH participates in the celebration of the International Landscape Day (20 October), established by the Council of Europe within the framework of the European Landscape Convention (ELC), which entered into force on 1 March 2004.
“Living in Space” event in the framework of the World Space Week celebration
In the framework of the World Space Week celebration, the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in collaboration with the Astronomy Club of the Students of the University of Crete, and the science communication group Periastron are organizing an event (in Greek) at FORTH’s new Science and Cultural Center, located on the corner of Averof & Zografou Streets in Heraklion, Crete. The event will take place on Monday October 20, 2025, from 18:00 to 21:00 and will be open to the public while the event’s activities will be suitable for people aged 6 and above.

FORTH hosts the 7th International Quantum Technology Conference of the European Space Agency (ESA)
The European Space Agency (ESA) and the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) are co-organizing the 7th Quantum Technology Conference, taking place on October 7–9, 2025, on FORTH’s premises in Heraklion, Crete. Completion of the evaluation process for the 1st cycle of the Crete Business Incubator – C Nest Accelerator
The evaluation process for the selection of beneficiaries to join the 1st operational cycle of the Crete Business Incubator – C Nest Accelerator has been successfully completed.
The procedure was carried out within the framework of the project “Provision of specialized services for the development and operation of a business incubator/accelerator in Crete to foster innovation in priority areas of the Just Development Transition Research and Innovation Strategy – LOT3 Section”, corresponding to Subproject 3 of the initiative.

The activities of “Contact Point” at FORTH is an original series of public discussions, each featuring a FORTH scientist and a distinguished artist. “Contact Point” brings Science and Culture into Creative Dialogue, fostering open and meaningful communication of science through art.
The second event of the series, entitled “And They Lived Happily Ever After: Ageing and Well-being” will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 20:00 at FORTH’s new Science and Cultural Center, located on the corner of Averof & Zografou Streets in Heraklion, Crete. Τhis discussion seeks to explore common ground between scientific research, storytelling, and the human experience.
Researcher's Night at FORTH | 26/09/2025
The Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, is organizing the 2025 Researchers’ Night on Friday September 26, 2025, 17:00-23:00, simultaneously at two locations: at its central premises in Heraklion (100 N. Plastira Street, Vassilika Vouton) and at the premises of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of FORTH, in Rethymno (130 Nikiforou Foka Street). During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of science, research, and technology through a wide range of activities taking place in both cities.
