Prof. Alexandros Stamatakis, head of the Biodiversity Computing Group (BCG) at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of FORTH, and Prof. Athanasios Nenes, Affiliated Scientist at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT) of FORTH are included in the internationally recognized list of “Highly Cited Researchers” for 2025, compiled by Clarivate Analytics based on the “Web of Science” database.This list is published annually and highlights scientists whose publications consistently rank among the most frequently cited worldwide (top 1%), and represents an important honorary distinction. Of the world’s population of scientists, Highly Cited Researchers who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their fields of research are 1 in 1,000.

The presentation of Christina Agriantoni’s book “Hermoupolis of Syros, 1823–1940. An Early Industrial City in the Aegean Sea” will take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 19:30, in the Lecture Hall of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in Rethymno.

The Hellenic Digital Health Cluster–HDHC is organizing an event titled “Building Synergies in Digital Health – Powered by HDHC", dedicated to showcasing ongoing EU-funded initiatives and collaborations in digital health led by innovative organisations based in Crete. The Municipality of Rethymnon and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) are organizing for the year 2025 a series of lectures addressed to the general public of Rethymnon. In these talks, open to everyone, the Institute's researchers will present elements of their research work in an accessible way, followed by a discussion. The events will take place at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in the old town, 130 Nikiforou Fokas and Melissinou.

The forth lecture titled "Natural hazards threatening the cultural heritage of Rethymno", will take place on Monday, November 7, 2025 at 19.00 by Dr. Nasos Argyriou, Assistant Researcher at the Laboratory of Geophysical - Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, of IMS-FORTH.

The 7^th annual Nick Kylafis Distinguished Lecture will be given for 2025 by the distinguished astrophysicist Roger Blandford, Luke Blossom Professor at Stanford University (USA).

Professor Blandford’s lecture, which will follow the public ceremony, will be in English and it is entitled “New Horizons in Extreme Electrodynamics of Black Holes and Neutron Stars”. It will take place on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, at 14.00 at the Central Amphitheater of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), with simultaneous webcast.

In the framework of the World Space Week celebration, the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in collaboration with the Astronomy Club of the Students of the University of Crete, and the science communication group Periastron are organizing an event (in Greek) at FORTH’s new Science and Cultural Center, located on the corner of Averof & Zografou Streets in Heraklion, Crete. The event will take place on Monday October 20, 2025, from 18:00 to 21:00 and will be open to the public while the event’s activities will be suitable for people aged 6 and above.

The Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of FORTH participates in the celebration of the International Landscape Day (20 October), established by the Council of Europe within the framework of the European Landscape Convention (ELC), which entered into force on 1 March 2004.

PRAXI Network/FORTH, as a National Contact Point for the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe, together with the European Research Council’s Executive Agency (ERCEA), is organizing an online seminar on October 7, 2025, entitled: “ERC funding opportunities for excellent researchers in Greece. ”

The European Space Agency (ESA) and the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) are co-organizing the 7th Quantum Technology Conference, taking place on October 7–9, 2025, on FORTH’s premises in Heraklion, Crete. The Conference, which has become a benchmark in the field of quantum technologies for space exploration, is held every two years in different European cities, aiming to promote scientific excellence and showcase cutting-edge technological achievements.
